Hi,<br />What year did Merc go from the aluminum cowling to the plastic cowling on small motors? What year did they change leg styles? And what year did they change carbs? What years did they have the red plastic cover over the points? What years did they have the green ignition parts under the flywheel?<br /><br />I have a 7.5 Merc that I've narrowed down to between 1971 and 1975 I believe. The serial number seems to have been removed/filed from every possible location; it must have been stolen years ago. I bought it from a marine recycler's yard. Just in case, could someone list the places where you would find the serial # on this motor. The motor is a bluestripe with an aluminum cowling but a new style leg with a short shift-shaft. The carb is the one with pull chocke and a built-in fuel pump.<br />Thanks,<br />Eric
