Small OMC brass propeller....?

I have a prop I'm having trouble identifying. It is about 7 1/2" diameter, has a 1/2" bore with a 1 1/4" shear pin slot. Any clues as to its application? The only markings are on the outer hub: AMC 421. I'm guessing it is a JohnnyRude prop just from the design. Could be waaay off. Thanks for any ideas you may have!

It looks just like my 1980 Johnson 25 HP prop except my prop is 8 1/2" in diameter.
Good Luck!!

Thanks, Jay. I'm guessing this one fits 5.5-15hp judging by its diameter. Looking forward to finding out for sure! :)

Re: Small OMC brass propeller....?

I have never seen a brass prop on a small JonnyRude. Have you?
The hub looks similar to my '65 Johnson 6 hp. Can't say if it will fit any of those engines but I don't think so.

This is a prop chart for OMC's. Only plastic, aluminium and SST propellers
http://marinemechanic.com/site/propchart.htm

Don't know why it says AMC. Was there a propeller company with that name many moons ago?
An aftermarket brass prop? Well, I don't know nothing :( ;)

Can't identify it, but sure wish I had one on my old Fisherman. What a cool looking little prop! Good luck!

Thanks for the input, guys. I am really curious as to what the heck it fits. If you have an older OMC pin-drive prop and could compare my (crude) measurements I would be very grateful. :D

It's a Michigan prop - according to my 1974 Michigan catalog it's for the Johnrude 6hp models of that era. It's actually 7 3/4" diameter with a 6 1/2" pitch (assuming it's never been repaired/reworked), listed for 14-16' boats with a light load. Originally listed for $17.00....
- Scott

Just a side-note/editorial on using brass/bronze props on small outboards - they can be very hard on gears and clutch dogs, so extra care should be taken when shifting. Shift at lowest possible speed and shift quickly so the clutch surfaces don't grind.
Bronze props last better in salt, but really aren't necessary in fresh water. If possible, find an aluminum prop of the same dimensions and you'll save your lower unit... I prefer to save the bronze props for show and use the aluminum for go on my service motors...
- Scott
