I was looking at a 1985 6hp Suzuki Kicker (Built in Gas Tank) for $500. After doing some research I found I can buy a NEW Tohatsu or Nissan - 3 year warranty (same motors just different pricing) (4hp $1000) (5hp $1200) (6hp $1400). or New Suzuki similar Hp's for $200 more per hp. I don't plan to go much more than a mile or 2 from my cabin but would like a little more power than a trolling motor and tired of limping back to dock with very little juice left in my NEW batteries. I would assume the 4hp would give me at least double the power of the Trolling motor and that's all I would need. I like the 4hp Nissan for the price. All I'm pushing is a 14' tinny with a light weight front deck. What do you think? I've heard good and bad about the Nissan/Tohatsu (also heard they make the Merc.) and mostly good about the Suzuki.

I'd personally rather spend $400-750 on a nice used Johnson/Evinrude 4-15 HP. Parts are plentiful and they are dead reliable. We have an 89 Evinrude 4HP on our little 14' tinnie and love it. Paid $400 for it about 5 years ago and haven't had to do a thing to it other than plugs and impeller.

Agree with ezmobee, keep that as an option.

But if you prefer new, the Tohatsu is a good motor. 56# if I remember correctly.
I bought a 4 hp Merc/Tohatsu right here on iboats back in 2002 (?). It was a "used" program motor.
Used it as a kicker for a few years and then gave it to my father for his boat.

Not many Johnson / Evinrudes WITH the built in tank for sale around here but I'll keep an open mind and if one pops up take a look at it. Thanks
