Small skeg above prop

Hi,
I have just bought a 2000 Bayliner 2150 BR with the 5.0 and Alpha 1 O/D. I noticed that it does not have the small skeg on the leg, just above the prop that you usually see on O\D's. It looks more like a zinc there. I assumed it was broken, but recently I saw another with the exact same set up. So I am not sure if this is how it should be, or is it in fact broken and it's just a coincidence that I've seen a couple other that are also broken on the same spot. I thought that these skegs were adjustable to help your boat steer straight, so I assumed it should be there.
Thanks,
Steve.

I think that he has the 'flat' anode...no trim tab.

This is what Mercruiser uses on their power assisted steering setups (power steering). He can use another flat style, or one of the trim tabs that clears his prop.

If he isn't having any pulling issues, then the flat style is just fine!

Re: Small skeg above prop

Thanks for such quick replies. Like I said, i just bought this boat, I haven't even launched it yet. It does have power steering. So since it sounds like this is a normal set up in some circumstances to have a flat one, i'll give it a try and make sure it tracks straight. It does show abit of zinc wear, but the boat saw very little salt water, so the corrosion is minimal.
Thanks.

And as for thinking it was broken...It doesn't look broker per se (no cracks or missing pieces), I just assumes that if the tab was supposed to be there that it was broken.
Thanks again.

sorry, thought he said his looked "broken"....

He did wonder where his 'skeg' went! So you had that right....

And you are right to recommend frequent replacement...cheap insurance, if his shows any signs of pitting.

Happy boating! :)
