I have boarded behind a 16' aluminum princecraft with a 40hp honda.

Small wake, but we were just learning and had a blast. No problem pulling us up.

Cheers

Guys on lake 2 years ago. 30 yr old 15' aluminum Crestliner. 50 hp. home made tower - a pipe and cable special. It looked like a solid $1,000 set up (Maybe $1,050 including the trailer). Both guys were busting out back flips off the 10" wake. The pull looked a bit soft out of the hole, but I'm guessing a new prop was not in their budget. Let just say they had more skills than the next 10 boats on the lake.

I'm already out done, but my cousin, 230lbs, wakeboards behind my boat. 16 foot trihull with 60hp, I even pull him up on one ski behind it. No tower, but I do have a pylon.

I just posted in the general section that my 85 hp Force had no problems at all pulling up a 190lb wakeboarder yesterday, worked like a charm. Turns were a little tricky at first due to lower hp, but all in all, it worked out great. Also had two other kids (15 year olds, sons buddies), sitting in the back of the boat + the skier & myself. Had a blast, went out at 5:30pm, & that was perfect timing, everyone else was in side eating dinner I guess, only 1 or 2 other wakeboard boats on the lake with us, lots of room to play.

I once wakeboarded behind a canoe rocking a 30lb thrust trolling motor. Drug me a while before I could get up, but once I did I was jumping wakes like nobody's business.

OK, maybe that isn't true. Would be interested to know why you're asking the question though. Are you looking to buy a boat and want to be sure you can wakeboard behind it? Or are you just curious to know who has pulled off the hardest and slowest wakeboarding experience?

Re: Smallest engine any forum member uses to Wakeboard

I have an 85hp o/b on my 17' bowrider, reason I was asking is I got my son a wakeboard package from Overton's & was hoping it was enough motor & it seems like this is a common question, so if anyone in the future does a search they may find this thread & have their answer. BTW: It worked just fine, got him up no problem & we had a blast all day & this was with 1 skier & 2 others in the boat besides myself. So to sum it up, an 85hp o/b works just fine.

Last weekend, we pulled my teenage son in a 13' Boston Whaler with a 1963 28hp Evinrude. It worked, and was somewhat fun, but not the most exciting ride.

last summer before i bought my boat we were wakeboarding behind my kawasaki sx550 jetski... so thats, uh... not much power., (20 hp tops?). took a while to get up but once up everything was good. found that we could control the direction of the small jetski just by carving out to the edge

was fun, glad i bought a bigger boat.....View attachment 123691

Re: Smallest engine any forum member uses to Wakeboard

You can wakeboard behind anything pretty much. 85hp will do the job but just about. I have 135hp on an 18 footer and wish I had more. We started behind an old Broom with a 50hp o/b though so can't really complain. The main issue with low power and wakeboarding is edgeing/cutting hard and pulling the boat around from the rear, thus robbing yourself of momentum.

I,ve pulled my 8 year old up with an 11' inflatable and an 8 hp. The wake wasn't too good though.

Normally it's 330 hp and in a 21' inboard.
