Anyone else got one of these? Great little device my wife got me for my birthday. I like the versatility. I've only used it from shore so far, any tips or tricks to make it more useful?

Re: Smart Cast

Hi JEllwanger,

They're great if you're fishing from shore. I bought one and was hoping to use if from shore and I also had the bright idea that I would tie the transducer/transmitter off to a piece of fishing line and tow it behind my kayak as I paddled.

I found that the transducer would slip below the surface at even the slowest paddling pace and I would lose the signal. :(

I traded it in on a Piranha 4 with a suction cup transducer that I could stick on my kayak. I figured that when I'm in fresh water I'll be fishing from the kayak or a rented jon boat most often.

If you're fishing from shore on an unfamiliar body of water the Smartcast is a great toy. ;)

the more float the more it will drag and tend to pull down plus it might slow the boat some. maybe a kneeboard.... why do you wanna know whats behind you?
