Smart craft trim gauge bounces around in trim position, 2004 searay sundeck

I have a problem with my 2004 searay sun deck. The trim gauge on the smart craft is intermittent in the trim position. Gauge works fine in trailer mode but as soon as you lower the out drive into any trim position the needle bounces around like crazy. I have already changed the both the limit switch and sending units on both sides of the out drive. I ohm'd out the wires from the gauge and the trim position sending unit seems to be working fine. I recallibrated the gauges on the smartcraft. And I still get the gauge bouncing around out of trailer position. In the trailer position the gauge indicates up as it should but when you go down into the trim detents the gauge keeps bouncing. I'm at a stand still and I need help. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like an intermittent connection going to your switch or gauge // possibly a bad gauge but less likely.

My gauge reads high with no power to it or when it has no grounded signal wire path -- I am assuming yours will do the same even though your boat is newer.

You may want to start be checking all the connections of the wires associated wires for looseness etc..

If that does not indicate a problem you could try this;

When you take the signal wire from the gauge ( often brown white ) and ground it where they go to the engine compartment. The gauge should read low. ( If not that indicates a problem in your gauge or wires to and from it)

If the gage reading stays low try leaving it like that and take a spin on the boat. If it stays low then that indicates a problem in your wires or switch to the sender (On mine these look like black lampcord wire ) / if it still bounces its in your gauge or wires to and from it.

Hope this helps.

2 things.
#1, are you sure you are plugged in at the "digital push-on" connector? Try changing it to the "analog" wire, just for giggles!

#2, you may need to set with the CDS.

http://boatinfo.no/lib/library.html Be sure to pick the correct year etc. by scrolling left/ rt. to correct manual

I also highly recomend familiarizing your self with the top 2 posts in the mercruiser i/o section of this forum as they have links & info to a wealth of really useful info. boat owners doing thier own maintenance. ( They stay on top all the time ) The manual above is one of them under ; MUST HAVE Technical Information for DIYers // Mercruiser // Manuals

Same problem here. Did you find a fix?

Still no help I installed a new gauge and same problem, when trim is in trailer position it reads full up!!! Then as soon as you start to lower the out drive down the gauge goes to full down position. It should follow slowly down with the trim. Still need help???
