I am looking at putting smart tabs on my boat. Thing is, I beach my boat and run in very shallow water at times. While I never hit things at high speed, sometimes I will drift and touch bottom. I'm assuming the tabs stick down below the hull, so after the motor, they would be exposed and could be damaged. Can they take a few taps here and there or should I be worried about them hitting at all? Also, I'd assume they can be adjusted up completely, but how quickly can this be done? Thanks, for any replies, Nick.

They can be lifted and secured in the horizontal or up position, check the Nauticus website for details.

Nick;
First thing you should know is that the tabs are deployed at slow speeds or rest, about 2.75" to 3.00" at the trailing edge. If you boat is a V bottom design, I would Guess that the bottom of the V is well below the tabs.

However if you run aground far enough they would be in the mud. Backing up could be an issue, as well as other things. Since you did not say what your boat is, I can not comment on the beaching issue. Assuming that you have a 18 to 21 ft boat, I doubt you should be concerned about the tabs.

If you are concerned we are now making a special plate retractor kit which allows you to pull the tabs up without disconnecting anything. # PR500 The retail price is $39.99 per pr.

If you have any other questions please feel free to call our customer service at 800-233-0194

John, thanks for the info. I here what you're saying about the keel touching first. I did download the installation manual and look at retracting the plates with the shock cord and quick cleats. Not exactly sure how it works though. Couldn't quite figure it out from the pics on the installation. My boat is a 1983 22' Pursuit cuddy cabin. Thanks, Nick.

Nick Kent;

We introduced the PR500 plate retractor kit to which is a far better and more economical rig for pulling the plates up. Don't bother with the pulley system. If you send your e-mail address to info@NauticusInc.com we will send you the information on the Plate Retractor kit.
Just started to sell it in February.
