This is too close as I can't get a good reading at above 16-17 knots or so. Will be moving the transducer an inch or two closer towards the prop this week. Link to pictures: link

Looks like I will have to look for a thru hull transducer then. If I move mine over it will be too close to the prop. Bugger, this is starting to look expensive. I still have to have the Smart Tabs though.

A few inches apart should probably be OK? (I'm hoping it will be)

I've got a speed wheel on one side and a transducer on the other...both are within 2" of Moster Tabs, and on my application, I've had no issues thru 58MPH.
It may be that I lowered the position of the transducer enough to clear water that it doesn't affect it...each one will be different though.

I drilled new mounting holes for the gas cyl bracket on my Smart Tabs. That allowed me to get them farther apart and make room for a xducer. They were moved 2" which works good because the holes for the transom are 2" centers. Makes locating easier.Talked to Nautijohn before I did this and he said this amount should be OK.Works fine for me.

Re: Smart Tabs and Tranducers

Had the Lowrance dealer come and install the new transducer today. Very experienced fellow who's been doing this for 20+ years. He said the original location right next to the tab (see pictures above) was perfectly OK. They did this all the time, and as long as the transducer had a nice clean flow of water across it, it would work fine. The previous transducer was merely angled too far out and sat about 1/4 inch too high.

I'm not home, so couldn't measure, but believe mine is about 3" from tab. It is a older large Humminbird transducer, which I've had positioning problems on other boats. Holds bottom at all speeds, on this boat.
Shoot thru the hull with Silicone Rubber blob squashed out. Put it where nobody steps on it and about 6" to 10" from the centerline. No good? pull it off the floor and move closer to the centerline . DO NOT cut holes in the hull unless you are wood or fibreglass. And then only if you know how to do it.
