Smart Tabs upper mount- must it be on the same plane?

My 18' Mariah does not have a flat transom. The transom upper part is extend to maximize space for the built in small swim deck. If I mount the bottom hinge(per instructions) 3-5" from outside edge of boat the stabilizer shock is not able to fall forward to the transom. The upper mount would need to be mounted to the bottom of the swim deck extension. This is more than strong enough for some plastic trim tabs. It would function the same- I think.

Just wanted to check before I drill into my boat.

I was just watching some youtubes on Smart Tabs last night. The video indicated that the regular Smart Tabs can be mounted as you describe but not the newer SX composite tabs. If I find link to video I'll post it.

http://www.nauticusinc.com/images/example_images/contoured/alternate_contoured.jpg

I called smarttabs. I was initially told move them inboard but keep them 8-10" away from motor. I advise them that they have pictures on thier website that says such location is too close. He says it's ok to mount them on the contoured section of the stabilizer can compress. I asked if there is a difference in the SX and metal and he said no. All he advised is to make sure the stabilizer can compress and the tab can move as required. So I'm thinking as long as the angle is less than 90 it will rotate up and in.

Looking at the picture above I should be ok. I'd like to have the tabs in the outer position for max stability in side to side. I'd guess that the more center the tabs are the more tue boat would be prone to rock.

This is actually what I had found on Nauticus site, not a video...seems to conflict with what Nauticus person told you.

The guy I spoke with wasn't very confident in his advice.

Thanks so much for the link. My shock is angled in verse the link which shows a near 90 degree angle or parrell to the transom. The key should be the inward tilt for movement.

Wish I had known this before and purchased the correct metal version.
