First day out after installing Smart Tabs and what an amazing difference they made on this boat.The first thing I noticed was that the boat came on plane very quickly with very little bow rise. Top speed appears to be unaffected. There is much less wandering at no wake speed.
It's a little breezy today in Oklahoma (imagine that) with winds at 22 mph gusting to 29, so there's a little chop on the lake. The boat seemed to take the chop much better than before. It stayed on plane at a lower speed and it seemed like when I had enough boat in the water ride well, there was less total boat in the water than before - if that makes sense. Maybe the effect was simply due to lower planing speed. In any case, I wish I'd done this a long time ago.

This is why i say HOGWASH to all the guys that say smart tabs are "Snake Oil". I have experienced the same results as have many others. Congrats on your awesome upgrade!!!

Re: Smart Tabs!

I hear all sorts of negatives about smart tabs but the people I've talked to that actually have them, love them. For different reasons, I'm splurging on a set of Bennett hydraulic tabs but expect to have the same results. I'll post with pics when I get them installed.

Re: Smart Tabs!

Thanks for all of the good comments, and I am delighted here that Strattohammer is happy.

As a side note if the speed is not a better, do the following: 1) make sure you are trimmed out so that the prop is at right angles to the water surface ( do not worry about porpoising as it will not), 2) if necessary move the actuator attachment to one hole lower (ie: from 3 to 2)

Regarding negative performance comments - the comments are most likely coming from someone who has not used them, and does not understand the dynamics of trim tabs. The guys also watch Black and White TV's :)

I've noticed the same... There are very, very few people who own them that have anything negative to say. The negative remarks come from people who haven't owned them, think they are the same as trim, or think hydraulic tabs are better. (not better, they are different products with different use cases)

Re: Smart Tabs!

I've read the "snake oil" comments and I fully embrace everyone's right to express their point of view. I also have high regard for engineering professionals and naval architects. In this case, I know that I have operated this particular boat in many different bodies of water under many different load and weather conditions. To paraphrase myself regarding the boat's new level of performance; "the difference is amazing."

Jdeagro - Thanks for the tips. I'll do a little adjusting and report back.

Don't mean to highjack, but could someone recommend to me the Smart Tabs model I should get? I have a '93 Glastron SSV 195 Elite, with a 4.3L Mercruiser (155 HP, I think). If it makes any difference, I also have a 4-blade, 16-pitch prop on it right now. Thanks!

Check Nauticus web site - answer some questions re your boat, and it will tell you which model you need.
You will have to decide between the ST (stainless) and SX (composite) range. Note the measurements of the tabs and check your transom to make sure they will fit. The ST is adjustable - the SX is not.

Re: Smart Tabs!

Our Smart Choice APP was designed to take into account the variations from one boat to the next so that the user receives the correct model for his or her boat. Once this has been done the various (five) pressure adjustments can be quickly made to "fine Tune" the system to the specific boat.

From a fit and application standpoint the Stainless sets are more adaptable or application friendly for boats with irregular shaped transoms.

The SX series is designed for more traditional transom mounting (please watch the videos). Performance is the same.

As a side note I would like to read the "snake oil" post - so if anyone has a link I would appreciate having it.

Hi Turn-n-Burn;

Thank you for the link - it was interesting. This is my reply FYI.

"Hi Bifflefan;

I think there has been enough debate here on the subject of our Smart Tabs and reference to Snake Oil, and I do not want to discount any opinions pro or con. I do have an objection to the association of our company and our product with an old term that indicates we are deliberately taking advantage of consumers by falsely promoting benefits that are not provided.

I am sure you are not intending to call us frauds. It is more likely that you do not understand the product and it's functions. To that end, I am inviting you to call me at your convenience so that we can discuss the Smart Tabs design and function in private. (800-233-0194) I truly hope that we have the opportunity to speak with each other. "

Re: Smart Tabs!

They absolutely work...I have them on my Wellcraft and the difference in performance/ride stability is obvious. There really is no "hole" per se...as there is very little bow rise. Once on plane, the ride quality is much improved with no wandering, porpising, or chining.

One of the few performance enhancing add- ons out there(in my experience) which operate as advertised!

Re: Smart Tabs!

.

My boat has Nauticus Smart Tab SX and it works. My boat has 4 blade prop and it too helps in keeping its stern up and its Bow down as well. For my boating "hole shot" and under 80% WOT speeds area, both are great upgrades. Well worth it. Especially for their "install them and leave them" designs.
