Smartcraft Conversion Info Needed

Looking for some advice from the Mercruiser gurus!

I have a customer who wants to convert his boat to the Smartcraft controls. His son lost an arm in an auto accident and he wants the Smartcraft because you can use a foot throttle (so the son could drive it) or the standard hand throttle by flipping a switch. It's a 2003 Crownline, Smartcraft 496 with a B3. Currently standard manual controls. I know the control panel would need to be replaced. What goes on the engine? I assume some kind of controller and stepper motor set-up to replace the cables and drive the throttle linkage and shift linkage? Any links to manuals, parts lists or personal experience would be appreciated!

I'm just guessing here but there must be a servo of sorts to run the throttle and gearshift, but I think a lot of the control information passes throught the engine ECM which you don't have and I would guess is very pricey. But post your question on the Mercruiser forum -- you'll get much better and more accurate response over there.

Re: Smartcraft Conversion Info Needed

The 496 is a Smartcraft engine. It has the 555 ECM, harnesses, sensors, etc. All it needs is the control system bolted to it and harnesses plugged in. My problem is that I can't find any documentation on what components I need to order. I know it needs the 892984A01 remote control (throttle handle), what I really need to know is what kit contains everything else (drive motors, etc) that I need to plug into the engine to run the throttle and shifter.

Thanks!

Just got the engine serial number and looked up what it would need. Might as well buy a new boat!!!!
