2001 150HP Optimax. I ordered a set of SC-100 link gauges only to find that they are not compatible with my motor. The Mercury parts catalog states: "For 2001 Optimax outboards. The parts guy said, "This is it." Too bad he didn't read further because the next sentence reads: "For 2002 and later Optimax V6 EFI".

The SC-100 connectors do not fit my big tach or speedometer connector. I asked Mercury about this and they quoted the parts catalog. I asked what the extra plug on the speedometer harness was for and am still waiting for the reply.

Purpose of this post:

Does anyone have a 2001 Optimax V6 with 2-1/8" direct reading link gauges installed? If so, do they plug directly into your speedometer harness? If not, how are they connected?

The first photo shows the link gauge connectors.
The second one shows the extra connector in the speedometer harness. No way they'll connect.

Re: SmartCraft Link Gauges

Mercury's reply:

The extra connector on the harness is for a second tach. There are no link gauges for a 2001 Optimax V6; only from 2002 and later.

Looks like I'll have to do it the hard way and install direct-reading gauges.
