Greetings all - I am just getting into boating again after taking over my elderly father's 23 foot boat on Long Island. It has a Mercury Optimax 200 (circa 2008) with some gauges (i dont know what product level). I just installed a Garmin 740S and i want to get it to display whatever engine parameters are available from the motor. Can anyone advise where I should look for a connection that would enable me to connect a smartcraft - NMEA 2000 gateway? That digital gauge towards the center lets me cycle through various values for trim, gallons used, water PSI, RPM, coolant temp, etc... Will the gateway module work with my setup as installed, or do i need new wire harnesses, etc..? I do not see any junction box that some describe.

Thanks.
Joe

Re: Smartcraft to Garmin 740S

Would my current gauge, the "system monitor" model necessarily have a junction box for the Smartcraft - NMEA 2000 gateway to attach to?

Re: Smartcraft to Garmin 740S

Bare minimum you will need to install a Garmin "Backbone" to connect the Garmin to the "system monitor". In order to transmit the smartcraft data to a Garmin unit you need a MercMonitor unit that is NMEA 2000 certified. Not sure if your "monitor" is certified. If not, your looking at $1000
