Smells like gas when running.

I have a 1992 Evinrude 15 hp and it works great. But when running it I smell gas. I took off the cover and it looks like a thin film of gas all around the carburetor. Now I did replace the fuel pump diaphram and had a leak. I'm pretty sure I got that one though. Another question....Should the fuel tank vent be open or closed when running?

Re-check the pump and all the fuel lines(Up and Down the hose for hairline cracks)or just replace them. Fuel tank vent must be open for proper operation. As the fuel goes out, the air replaces it in the tank. If closed, it will draw into a vacuum and odds are you motor will quit after running a while...
