Hello everybody!I got a thick white smoke on the first cold starting of my engine Mercruiser 170.Later start -ups don`t make any smoke. The smoke smell is sharp and I can`t sense any antifreeze scent. The smoke rises from the water .What does this smoke indicate?Thank you?

I don't know that it's anything to worry about. I've never noticed any I/O's doing it, but almost every outboard ive ever seen does that on first crank. Maybe you are getting a little oil through the rings or something.

It could be leaky valve seals. If it just smokes on the first start after setting awhile i wouldn't worry as long as its not using a bunch of oil and it runs ok..
