smoke,smoke go away

i put my boat in the water and when i started it all i got was lots of smoke. it ran fine last time out. i still took it out hoping to clean it out but it kep stalling and smoking. i dont know what to look at first please help, :confused: :confused: :confused:

Hi i have a 1997 Jhonson 70Hp. and it is doing the same thing they tell me it is the VRO PUMP.it is about $225. or may be you can get a kit.

i am not sure what and the location of the vro pump is. also i have noticed lots of black oil dripping out all the holes in lower unit. thanks for the info please send more.

I don't have a VRO on that motor. Perhaps its time for a carburator overhaul

Make sure the electric choke is not stuck. Is the motor running poorly as well? If the choke got stuck closed, you're pouring way too much fuel/oil in, resulting in the oily mess down below.
