Bottomline: waterpump went out, motor overheated.

I haven't torn it down yet to see if anything cracked, but it cranks real slow now, to the point of melting battery cables.

I could tear down and rebuild, assuming nothing cracked. From what I've found, I'm looking at a $600 outlay for parts, plus machine work.

What are my options for a replacement motor? I don't want to spend $3k on a purpose built OMC for this old boat. What about a GM shortblock and swap over parts? What years might work? From what vehicles? I know I'd have to swap pretty much everything to it.

That is an industral/marine engine only, and NONE were used in cars or trucks. And even remans for boats can be hard to come by due to lack of cores...
