Re: smokie 302
Howdy,
You redid "A" head? Only one? does it only smoke at low rpms, medium or at WOT?
If it only does it at low and medium throttle settings it's possible that it's valve seals/guides on the either the head you rebuilt, or the one you didn't.
Does it have thru hull exhaust? (Left or right bank...that's one way to check.)
It's also possible that the valve stem seals were left out....( I can't imagine a machine shop would leave out the seals ...but it has happened!!)
At low throttle you have high intake vacuum. If the valve stem seals were either missing or your valve guides were real loose it would suck oil down thru the guides. At WOT there's a LOT less vacuum so it doesn't suck as much oil in there.....
If it's at all RPMs then it's possibly rings. The only additives that will eliminate oil smoke are new parts in a rebuilt engine. Is the crankcase breather plugged? You could be pressurizing the crankcase.
"Snake Oil" additives only add money to the retailer that sells them.
Looks like an engine rebuild may be required.
