I spoke to an experienced "Johnson" man this weekend about the smoking problem at low speed. He said that Johnson had some problems with their thermostats sticking open. If the head is not running hot enough at low RPMs, this could at least contribute to the smoking problem if not cause it. Considering the water temperature last time out on Georgian bay was 36 degrees F the cool head could be an issue. Hope to check this out tomorrow. Comments from you other experienced guys???

Smokin'

Well I'm not what you would call one of the super experienced guys around here but they do smoke more when they are cold. I'm not sure what motor your talking about either but if you can lean it at low RPMS it wont smoke as much either. You can always check your thermostat by putting it in boiling water.
