got to test boat today after the exhaust o ring repair, started at house ran great took to river, backed off trailer and headed out, just as she got up on plane i got the crap shocked out of me through the throttle handle, engine died. what the heck wouldnt try to start and trim would not come up, its dead. got in loaded and headed home got out stuff for smores, but i tested the battery and it was dead 9 volts, charged battery up. started and it sounded like every rod was comeing out to say hi. after it ran it got better and started sounding like its old self, rpm around 1k. tried to take rpm up 1500 and started popping through carb, bent push rod i thought but not so, adjusted valves and still does it and as you try to go up in rpms the nosie is back sounds like rods rattleing. or maybe predetonation dont know, has new plugs wires, all new tuneup parts, any ideas, thanks guys.. oh yeah 1986 glasstream 120hp merc,

Isn't the coil about the only source of voltage that can deliver a shock? I've never been hit by 14V DC voltage, other than secondary igniton (coil) and yea that bites. I don't see how that can be related to mechanical issues though.

follow the cables back from the throttle.where are they laying across the battery terminals? or the starter positive terminal.the plastic outer shell of the cable is cut somewhere.u put the plug wires on in the right order?

just readjusted the valves and checked it over didnt find a short yet but have a major nosie, is there anything that i could have done or something broke when i put this back togather that would make it sound like rods comeing out of the engine, oil pressure if fine, it seems to run smooth at idle but dont give it any throttle, i lined it all up and sllid like it was suppose too, any help please
