Anybody having experience please chime in, the pliers seem like they would be easier to use but the strike anvil looks like it would do a better job, I hate to order stuff blind without having tried it out, I have sewn up a canvas bow cover and now to install the snaps, the male snaps are already on the boat so I have to locate the snapa on the cover to match up so it seems like the hand pliers would be the best way to go.
I see a bunch of them on e'bay but afraid of getting some china junk that won't work worth a crap.

Re: Snap fasteners pliers vs. anvil and strike pin

I used the anvil and strike set up when I first started and found that I usually hit too hard and left a dent in the snaps finished top.

I got just a cheap pair of snap pliers, not the vise grip kind, just the regular ones at JoAnn fabrics and they have always worked perfectly. Since it was JoAnn they were priced high, around $20 I believe, but my wife always gets coupons for that place for 40% off, so with that they weren't expensive at all.

good luck

I have the vice grip snap attachments and the joanne fabric snap pliers. I almost always use the vice grip setup, they work better in my opinion.

Ayuh,... I've got several different snap-sets,...

The vise-grips with plastic anvils works Ok if you're careful not to over tighten 'em,...
I've split the plastic...
The Pin,+ Anvil also works well, just don't beat it so hard as to dent the snap cover...
