Alpha I Gen II -while trying to replace the sift cable I snapped the head off on the cable. Whats the best way to get it out?
Heat and easy out or drill and re-tap (what size drill bit and tap) what a PITA

Thanks

Not sure I know what you are calling the head of the cable. Can you post a picture?

The part of the cable that screws into the bell housing -you need a special socket 9/16 to install and remove-when trying to remove the part of the cable from the bell housing that 9/16 head snapped off the cable leaving it stuck in the bell housing-I will try to take pictures

brass portion of outer cable that threads into bellhousing??

try an easy out with penetrating oil/heat first

if no go then drill and tap - 1/4-18 NPS i believe

perfect seal on the threads of new cable to prevent future mishaps

I know exactly what you did. You tried to tight the cable in the bellhousing until the retaining nut (that broke off) was flush with the bellhousing. They don't go in that deep.It should come out fairly easy with an EZ out, bit size depends on EZ out size.,

Don.....I have not been able to remove the old one yet ....I guess 9 years in salt water full time has taken its toll -hey that's not too bad the rest came apart pretty easy......

Well, since you are in salt water, things change. I have succeded a few times by drilling the cable out a little at a time until I can peal the insides out, then retap. Usually it get's off center and things just don't work out and a new or used bellhousing is found. Salt water is just a killer on parts like that.

Ayuh,.... Used parts from a freshwater boat is probably the best, quickest, easiest, cheapest way out.....

Re: Snapped the shift cable head off

OK update......today is my lucky day!! I did a bunch of googling and have determined the best method would be heat (propane torch)
So since I have twin 4,3 and have not snapped the second one -I heated it pretty good and it came out! On to the snapped one -first I choose the correct size easy -out heated real good and with a breaker bar it came out!!
Thanks for all your help .......now on to the shift shaft seals and bushings!!!
