sneezing

i have a 78 evinrude 140 and whenever i go into idle it starts to as some people call it sneeze and miss and sometimes die but starts right back and starts it again but @ full throttle its fine runs good any suggestions?

Check plugs and wires for wear?

I have cahnged the plugs and it has new coilpacks but not new wires (I didnt do that) the guy that hads it before me put sheetmetal screws in the caps of two of them I guess to hold em on but can you use any kind of wire like universal wire that ya cut to size? and also mine smoles really bad when you first start it and very often while you drive thats not often though

Has the carb been rebuilt?

Is it lean?

Fuel mixture?

I would use OEM wires if you replace them.
