Used my blower (Craftsman *8hp OHV 12xxxx series Briggs) a week ago, Left it out on the side of the driveway. Went to start it up and couldn't pull it over. Did some reading on line and it sounded like the valves needed adjusting to allow the compression let off act properly.

Pulled the valve cover off and started looking at it. Pulled the plug to roll it to TDC. And what to my wondering eyes did appear....

The cylinder was filled with water.:confused:

Pulled it over and water sprayed out 8 feet high. Hooked up the electric start and spun it over for about 10 seconds. Put the plug back in and it still pulled hard. Pulled the plug and more water blew out of the cylinder.

Checked the valve adjustment and one of the push rod was bent. Straighten it and put it back together. Fired up just fine, but the crankcase oil is a milkshake.

Letting the oil drain for a second time trying to get it water free. Next will be to fill it back up and let it run for a while.

Trying to figure out how the water got in???

It rained hard last Sunday, maybe a couple inches. Thinking it back fed through the muffler?

So you left it outside? In the rain? Good thing it didn't go below freezing, it would have cracked the block.

When did Mercruiser start making snowblowers?

Is it possible the rain got in through the air cleaner?

Heck, I have to fight with my blower every single year, I purchased it brand new two years ago and the stupid thing has never worked right!

Mine has worked great the last 2 years ... It was a cool 48 degrees today, 60's tomorrow ... Not sure we are gonna get snow this year. If you need to borrow one, let me know ...

So It isn't just me. While I will never have a need for a snow blower, all my other yard maintenance equipment (chainsaw, trimmer, poll saw etc.) always needs to have their carbs rebuilt every time I need to use one. The stupid diaphragms are always hardened up and won't run until I replace them. Then they work perfectly until next time I need them. I guess not using them weekly does that. JMHO!

I've had my Craftsman 9 HP snowblower for 18 years. It's still going strong. It hasn't had an easy life either. We have our share of snow here in the Pocono Mountains of PA.
When not in use, it resides in either the shed or the garage.

I have never had the need for a snow blower...it was 81 today :D ...however...the yard equipment is no different than an outboard...it needs to be run often.
You must have had a good rain to get water inside...hope everything works out good...:thumb:

I doubt it came in the air cleaner. It is a screen that is vertical and covered by a plastic shell.

It is also a snowblower, shouldn't it be able to take being out in the elements?

I do need to learn to take a little better care of things. I usually park it in the pole barn but didn't the last time i used it.

My chain saw sat in the wood shed for 5 months, it needed the points sanded to get it running. My wood splitter had a mouse nest under the starter cover, had to clean all the crap out to get it to run. One small riding mower needs gas poured in it to start. Another lost spark this fall. Have a 3hp tiller with no spark. Have an old wheel horse that needs the carb and generator rebuilt. Have another wheel horse with weak spark. Have a Bolen's with no compression. Have another Bolen's that runs great.

Also have a really really old Jacobson blower, 40 + years, that I can't kill even though I've tried. It is not as easy to use as the Craftsman.

And we wonder how our ancestors ever got by without gas sucking equipment...:D

Ya, I got one of those 9 foot plows as well, but my plow is over 500 feet from my door, so need the blower as well.

Not so sure about you "northern" boys...if I had a 9` plow and was worried about snow...I would park that thang "Closer" to my front door...just sayin...:D

Even with a plow, a blower is nice to have for the walks, and a shovel is still another tool close by that gets used.
