I need trim trim/ tilt pump assy. for my boat. I have found the pump assy. p/n 3587079 listed on two different websites for $549. iBoats is listing the pump for $665, when I called iBoats for the price match, I was told that they can't match the price because of the" Volvo Penta store". Not sure what that means. So much for their "Low Price Guarantee" . I reread the low price guarantee and see no reason why they won't price match like the guarantee states. Anyone else had this problem in the past?

Never understood price match - give your business to whoever is selling at the best price.

what is wrong with your existing one? most hydraulic shops can rebuild the Parker/Oildyne pump for under $60

skymech - Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. My best guess, without knowing what the part # is, is that you were purchasing an OEM Volvo Penta part. We operate the Volvo Penta Online Store, but we are held to their regulations of selling at MSRP. We simply can't lower any of their pricing. However, if you were looking at an aftermarket brand (Sierra, Arco, CDI, etc.) we should be able to match the price. If you could please let me know what part # you were hoping to have a price match on, I would be happy to look into it.

+1! If a company could sell at a lower price and doesn't offer it to start with why bother and go through the back and forth to just get the same price.
Exception is when the price match is with a 10% lower offer as done by some home improvement places. Then you can actually safe money.

I missed that, thank you. Yes, 3587079 is an OEM part # from Volvo Penta and we are held to MSRP. Certainly, we wish we could price match on Volvo Penta items.

The marine space is very similar to the home improvement space when it comes to pricing - it's near impossible to keep up with all of our competitors' sales so we offer the Low Price Guarantee knowing that there will be times when our competitors' are lower than us. With that said, we are constantly reviewing pricing to provide the best pricing possible.

Again, thank you for the feedback everyone!

There is another benefit to price matching.... I have various businesses that I have done business with for years or decades and trust... example I get my performance automotive parts from summit racing.... there is always someone somewhere that advertises something lower and sometimes even at a loss to gain your business but giving my credit card number to johny come lately and just HOPING he isn't a Nigerian scam that just looks like a legit business on the web isn't my style.....

Iboats is another example of the same.... sooooo joeblowboatparts sells marine widgets for $10 and Iboats has em for $11...... give your credit card to the name you never heard of and feverishly watch your account OR have Iboats price match and KNOW that you are dealing with a legit business AND that if there is a problem you will be taken care of.

It's very common to have pricing restrictions with certain manufacturers. Many only restrict advertised price but this is the second I've seen that regulates actual selling price... South bend clutch will yank a dealer's selling rights in an instant if they sell below MSRP.

Meh, most places take paypal now - so even if you are dealing with Joe Blow then you are pretty protected. Most of the time it isn't Joe Blow anyways, it is a major retailer. I understand why the vendor offers price match, but in online shopping I'd never bother to call someone when I could just click and buy the best price ASAP. I try to buy from iBoats every once in a while but it generally requires me to look up the part number on some one else's site and then use that to find it here.

I can type Acme 847 into google and find 40 places that sell it and their prices, most of them $50 cheaper and not requiring a call.

Thanks for the reply! Only problem is that no where in your low price guarantee does it say anything about not matching prices on OEM Volvo Penta parts. It needs to be stated in the exceptions section of your guarantee! I have quoted your low price guarantee. "iboats.com Low Price Guarantee – Quick and Simple We have the best selection of products at the best prices, guaranteed. If you find a current lower price on an identical, in-stock item from any nationally recognized U.S. marine Internet retailer, we will lower our price to match. iboats.com works hard to bring you everyday low prices plus knowledgeable product advice, great in-stock selection, and outstanding customer service. Our guarantee covers it all*, and if you've found a better price let us know and we'll match it and work hard to make you a satisfied iboats customer for life. Quick: Call 1-800-914-1123 Simple: Have the lower competitive price info ready, as outlined below. Buy with Confidence – We Won’t Be Beat! Here’s what you need to supply us to verify a lower price: The retailer’s name and URL website address of where you found the lower price. The product name, manufacturer, model number, and price. The shipping charges. Please Note: *Electronics products, trolling motors, Monster Towers and outboard engines are not available for price matching. Our Low Price Guarantee is available for customers residing in the United States only. 30-day Guarantee Buy now with confidence, knowing that should there ever be a lower price from any nationally recognized U.S. marine Internet retailer for 30 days after your purchase, iboats will match that price and refund you the difference. Or we'll match the price before your purchase. The price considered will be the advertised price plus shipping and handling charges. Qualifying items must be verifiable on the Internet or through a current printed advertisement. Items must be identical, in-stock new products and not sold through a membership club or auction site or any of the following offers, such as free offers, multiple discounts like "buy one, get one at half off", special orders, special bundles, clearance sales, mail-in rebate offers, typographical errors, private sales, non-retail websites, promo discounts, or limited-time offers. All price matching is at the discretion of iboats.com and is subject to change at any time. iboats reserves the right to limit quantities. Price-match products are not eligible for special offers or discounts. iboats.com – The Leader in Price Buster Confidence!"

I ended up purchasing the tilt/ trim pump from another online vendor. I would've preferred to give my business to iboats since I have learned a lot from the forums over the years. (I don't post a lot, but read a lot and learn a lot.

I was told by my certified Volvo Penta mechanic that the Volvo pumps can't be rebuilt and that the aftermarket (Chinese)pumps aren't worth the materials that they are made out of. Anyways, it's my decision how I spend my money and knowing that I have a reliable pump gives me peace of mind. The whole point of this thread is that iboats guarantees the lowest price, but nowhere mentions that it excludes Volvo Penta parts. Thanks
Did a quick web search, but why did you buy a brand new one for $549 and not a rebuilt one for $280? Or a brand new aftermarket for $140? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-TILT-TR..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item2a3eccb9f6&vxp=mtr

Well, if I was iBoats I'd either take it up with VP if they're selling parts for less than they allow iBoats, or VP needs to jump on the retailer who isn't honoring their agreement to sell VP parts at MSRP.

and some of these online dealers take aftermarket parts, pack them in something which looks OEM and make a nice profit. However, a lot of the OEM stuff comes from the same Chinese suppliers which then sell cheaper direct...........

We will go ahead and add Volvo Penta OEM parts into the exclusions for the Low Price Guarantee. Thank you for helping us improve!
