So psyched now that we have a bigger boat!

So my wife and I just bought a pristine Monterey Montura 218 lsc cuddy cabin boat to replace our 18 foot bowrider. We got back into boating in 2009 with a bowrider and tried some lake boating, only to realize that we love the freedom of bay cruising with it's varied destinations, sights and experiences. Turns out our little 18 footer was just too small for the bay. We tried, boy did we try. We boat in the Rhode Island bays and rivers (Narragansett and Mount Hope Bays, Taunton, Sakonnett and Providence Rivers). Lots of days we would poke our way down the bay into Newport and dock the little Mariah next to much bigger boats. There we would eat lobsters, drink cold beer, shop a bit and enjoy Newport. The ride back up the bay and river was an adventure, but always fun and satisfying. Now that we have a 21 footer, who knows? Might even drop her into the Plymouth harbor and try whale watching on the right day. Or a trek to Block Island? We even hope to overnight a few times either in coves or as a transient. We just love boating and wish it was May, not October. Can't wait for next summer.....life it so short and boating is so much fun. Hope you all get a few more days out this fall. Enjoy....

Yeah, it's too bad that this thread is totally untrue.....seeing as how there aren't any pics of the "alleged" boat. Too bad though, because it sounded like a cool story.

And there is their first case of "two-foot-itis".

Repost in 18 months and tell us how great the new 24-footer is! :D

So glad to hear of the new boat, pics of the new places and ports of call you hit would be cool. Wanna move back home to NH one day and do the very same thing you are gonna be doing. Enjoy..... Jeff

Wait till you run thru Buzzards Bay on the way up to Plymouth Harbor on a nice day with snotty water. The 21' will seem a tad "small". Ran thru there on my brothers Trojan 48 express on our way from Quincy MA to Stamford CT and we got soaked.... Mass bay was like glass, went thru canal and hit Buzzards Bay. What a surprise that was.... Thar was some "mean" water.....

If you do go to Plymouth, though, you'll love it. I used to live in and boat out of Norwell / Marshfield, just off Plymouth Harbor. Had an 18 1/2 Eagle, going out to P-Town, now and again years ago. Loved every second of being on Mass Bay... So many days the bay was like glass. Great fishing too.

Planning some trips up there with the Chaparral 2550 SX we have now, but will be towing up from NY and launching locally. Million places to go / see up there along that gorgeous coast line, like Plymouth, Scituate, Hingham and others up to North Shore. Great eateries on the water too, most having docks to tie up to while dining.

Just did a week in NH last month on Sunapee. Loved every second of it. Going back next year.
Used to summer there when I was a kid....

Somebody stole your bunks and put ROLLERS on your trailer!!!

I envy you guys on the east coast...so much history and fantastic harbors! here in Southern CA we have the Queen Mary...and a whole lot of commercial traffic. Hintington and Newport Harbors are really pretty at Christmas though!

Well done! That's a sweet lookin' boat. You will definitely be selling that boat in no time though. It's part of the game. I started with a 14' aluminum boat and a little "itch" to go out on the lake. Now my 19' bowrider is for sale and my 24' boat should be ready to fish the open waters by next season. I'm already contemplating selling the 24' and buying a 35'-36' boat. Start saving now...

Very nice looking boat there. Monterey makes some good boats from what I've seen. Hope you can bear the long wait till next season to get her out on the water!

Re: So psyched now that we have a bigger boat!

Wow, I never knew there were so many Massachusetts boaters on here, glad to hear from you. My thoughts on boating in the Cape Cod Bay would be to launch in Plymouth and run the coastline around to Provincetown. I am also a pilot and have gone whale watching from the air a few times, finding pods of whales just off the tip of P-Town. Seems do-able on a calm day, but maybe I am dreaming. It sure looked calm from 1,000 feet up! I would probably not venture through the canal into the outside of the cape. Heard too many stories of 6 footers and changing weather. My old haunt was to boat in the Naragansett Bay and go to Newport or Bristol RI, sometimes into Greenwich RI. I know most of the waterfront restaurants in that bay. I am 54 now and know that this will probably be my last trailered boat. My next move is to find a marina that I like so we can get that 26 footer in few years. But lets not rush ahead. A few nice summers with the Monterey will come first!
