What is the differance between a MARINE long block, and an engine block form an auto?

Camshaft, Longer dipstick (to reach the bottom of the pan), and brass core plugs

The cam is different to prevent ingestion & the core plugs are brass to prevent them from rusting out.....
Otherwise they are the same......:)

Actually,......... What engine we're talking about Would, or Could make a Big Difference...........

SBCs are a Basic Conversion of a Truck motor........

While a 2.5l, or 3.0l are motors that are Somewhat Similar to Some automotive engines,......
But the Same as None of them.........
Those motors have Never been seen in a Car..........;)

Ya, there has been a couple marine only motors but most times its off the shelf auto. Even the cam's are just truck cams for the most part. If running in fresh water only you don't even have to worry about the core plugs either.

the motor i am looking to replace is a 1987 2.3L cobra (ford). and the boat will never see saltwater.
