For years there was sand blasting. We all thought it was cool. Now we have soda blasting....its even cooler, not to mention...faster. What do I do to turn my 50LB Harbor Freight sand blaster into a soda blaster. Soda blasters have a presure regulator, is there more than that? I know I have to pour out the sand and dump in the baking soda.

Re: Soda Blasting

Well its not everyday that I respond to myself....so here goes. After I posted this I got to looking around and found out that The Eastwood Co. www.eastwood.com sells one for $135.00. Now we can swap back and forth in about 15 minutes.

Re: Soda Blasting

i have been looking into blasting myself for an aluminum boat. I didn't think soda was faster though. it is a gentle way to remove paint and it does not give you any profile to speak of. It has its place but isn't always the best media. It all depends on what you want to accomplish on the material the boat is made out of. I don't know the ratio but some people add aluminum oxide to soda to make it more aggressive and leave some tooth for your paint to adhere to. Soda has to be rinsed off really well because it can be corrosive. Sponge blasting is great but costs alot and someone who has the special equipment would have to do it for you. Walnut shell will give you some profile also.
