Solas and Thrust Washer Question ??

I have just installed a Solas prop with the builtin rubber insert on my MC 1 replacing a TorqFlow hub system. Do I need to keep the thrust washer that was on the front of the TorqFlow when the Solas is installed? With the thrust washer on the shaft and the prop mounted, the lock nut has barely one thread showing. Take out the thrust washer and you can get about 4 threads showing?

Re: Solas and Thrust Washer Question ??

If you are running a mercruiser or mercury you need a solas thrust washer (part # metw). It is slightly thinner than others and will allow the prop nut to go correctly. DO NOT run without a thrust washer or back of prop will wear and grind out lower gear casing.

Thanks....

If any one from iboats is "watching", might change the check out process for the Solas Amita props to recommend a new trim tab and the proper thrust washer. Would be nice to just purchase it all at once at checkout.

Uh-oh....I have the same problem. I can't run the Solas prop on my Merc 150 OB until I get a different thrust washer.

Do I also need a different trim tab?

Re: Solas and Thrust Washer Question ??

The Solas pressed in hub props are designed to work with the OEM hardware. The "Torqflo" hub system you were using came with different hardware which was probably why you had the issue with the Thrust Washer.

Regarding the issue with your trim tab anode; Mercury and Sierra offer 3 different style anodes because Mercury also encounters the same challenges with some of their props.
-Standard Anode - Merc # 31640Q4, Sierra # 18-6011
-Puck style Anode - Merc # 76214Q5, Sierra # 18-6016
-Off set Anode - Merc # 822777Q, Sierra # 18-6014

Re: Solas and Thrust Washer Question ??

I've ordered the Solas #METW thrust washer which is supposed to add a little spacing between the lower housing and the prop. I'm hoping that cures my problem. The prop I am replacing is a Quicksilver Laser II that had too much pitch (22") for the boat (Larson SEi186).

Since I haven't been able to run the new Solas prop yet, I'm not sure if I'll have a "trim tab" problem. The prop is a Solas Amita 3 alum 14 1/2 X 19 on a Merc 150hp XR4. Anyone have any more input on the trim tab issues?

Should have bought Michigan Wheel prop, the right thrust washer would have been sent.
