I have a 24ft Manitou Osprey Pro SHP Pontoon with a 175 Yamaha VMax HPDI motpor. Currently running a Yamaha Aluminum (15 1/2 x 15) prop tunring 5500 rpm at wot

My top speed (clean tubes, light load) was 39.63 MPH.

Top speed the other day with aload and dirty tubes was 36 MPH.

On that day I had the opportunity to try a Yamaha Reliance prop (14 1/2 x 15). My critique of the test drive was "Oh baby!!". Better hole shot, better handling (no blow out in the turns), top end was 37.7 mph. Still turning 5500 rpm. I did have some small occasional chatter at idle speeds.

I have got to get me one of these.

I went to my local marina and they don't sell the yamahas but he said the Solas New Saturn was comparable.

Does anyone know if the Solas is comparabale to the Yamaha Reliance? It's a couple hundred cheaper (which is good) but I don't want to shell out the money and not get the performance I'm expecting.

Also, the review of them on here has a couple guys commenting on vibration issues. Anyone have experince with that on my size motor?

Thanks!

Which is better; a Solas prop or a Yamaha prop?

It may help to know that Solas makes props for several manufacturers including Yamaha.

Stick with the Reliance. It's Yamaha's top of the line prop for a pontoon boat, and is comparable to Mercury's popular Enertia line of prop.

I assume 5500 rpm's is pretty close to your two stroke engine's redline? We seldom see 175 hp motors without stainless props.

I started out with a 14 pitch Yamaha stainless prop on my new 150 hp 4 stroke (on a Bennington tri hull), but it easily hit the 6200 rpm rev limiter @ 37 mph. After switching to the Reliance 15 pitch, I'm @ 40 mph and 6000 rpm's--just right.
