Anyone use a Solas propeller(Aluminum or s/s) on your boat. Trailer Boat mag. had a very good write up this month. They seem to be used all over the world. but I would like to get feedback from you guys.

Re: Solas propeller

I have a Solas 4 blade Stainless on my Thompson 210 fisherman with a 93 4.3LX. It made a tremendous difference in low end torque and limiting bow rise. I've had it on about 2 years now in Lake Erie and it looks great.

Ronjon,

What type of boat, engine do you have and how do you typically use them. I've met Dr. Solas and have been to the Solas factory in Taiwan where they design, cast and finish their propellers, impellers and pump housings, and was very impressed. I have a stainless 4 blade HR4 14.25x17 on my boat and have been extremely happy with it. It will immediately lift the stern drive and drop the bow when you take off, it holds the water very well in rough seas and will not cavitate.

Re: Solas propeller

ronjon, i don't know about the solas props, but their impellers are very good. got me a 12/19 set back for my pwc and works great. like everyone is saying about the prop, i got less cavitation, better hole shot and better top speed. i got a stock prop on my boat but when i got the bread and i get to it (twards the end of the list of things to do to my old boat), i will consider a solas prop too, seems that solas knows props and impellers to me. aslo since ya say they make 5 versions for you, ya might talk with the dealer about how you plan on useing your boat, ie waterskiing, high speed runs, just crusing. i would think that one prop will do waterskiing good, another will do a high speed run better, another will do both good, but will sacrifice a bit on each end, etc. the dealer will know i bet. . jim

Re: Solas propeller

ron
pulling the skier and haveing more top end can not happen with the same prop anything that gives more top end on a 3.0 will allways make the hole shot slower

tommays

Re: Solas propeller

Does anyone have a general reccomendation for prop manufacturers/models?

I have been using the Michigan Wheel vortex, but wonderer what other people think.

I am not so much concerned with squeezing out the last couple of knots as I am finding a prop that gives a good bang for the buck. Works well, but is not too expensive.

Comments?

I use Solas on my twins. I use the 3-blade 14 x 19s Stainless and have no complaints what so ever.

Re: Solas propeller

I have a couple of SS Solas on my V4 outboards. One started slipping and I took it in for a rehub. Got a call from the prop shop the next day about a crack in the hub and told that they could not rehub it. Called Solas and was told to bring it over. They took one look at it and said that the crack was due to a manufacturing defect and repalced it with a new one on the spot with no hastle at all.
