Since boating season is getting closer (just not fast enough) I'm looking for a new prop. I've read about Hustler, MI-Wheel, Pirhana etc. but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Solas props. They claim to be well made & use a "Torsion Rod" changeable hub setup making the hub diameter smaller, allowing for larger exhaust openings. The claim is to add 5+ %more horsepower. Just curious before I buy. Thanks, TK

Re: Solas Propellers

I have wondered the same thing. I just purchased a Solas/Amita 3 aluminum prop for my 1977 Merc Classic 50. Haven't had a chance to get out on the lake yet, but wondered if the Solas/Amita line is a good performer. I bought it for the price, so I'm taking a chance on the brand.

Thanks,

For what it's worth. I had a SS Solas on my last boat with a 115 HP Merc that performed well. Good bite in corners and vibration free. Recently bought another new SS Solas for my new boat that was out of balance and vibrated noticably. It also vented quite easily. Got Overtons to take it back and replaced it with a Yamaha prop.

I have an aluminum and a stainless Solas. They do a fine job. That said however I will not buy another one.The company is from Taiwan and the economy being what it is ,I will buy made in the USA.If we don't support our own producers, pretty soon we will not have any.

Re: Solas Propellers

I have an Solas Amita Aluminium 21p On my cruiser. I destroyed one and re purchased it so this is my 2nd one.

I tried the SS version but it had a smaller diamater and was terible on my boat. I think I should have dropped pitch.

For what its worth the Aluminum prop is just fine for my cruiser. Its a cruiser and does 45 I dont need the performance of a SS on this boat. The prop is well made and before I bent the blade on the last one I took a hit on it last November that left the blades a little jagged. After touching them up the prop was fine. Until I hit a big rock when docking and folded one blade back in half. At least the prop gave way easily.

They are well made and do a fantastic job and even though are made in Tiwan they are priced accordingly. I think youll be happy with it.

Guys...I don't know why this post was dug up from 2003 but these critters have changed a BUNCH in the last few years....
At the Top of this forum I also have some coments on testing the new Solas Rubex...it's quite a prop for the money.
