When I try to start my engine the starter solenoid clicks very loud. It has a flat back grounded mount and one of the ground wires (smaller one coming off the front of solenoid) Is hooked into on of the solenoid mount screws.

If I take off both solenoid mount screws removing the unit- hook the ground wire from the solenoid directly to the engine with the mount screw- then touch a metal corner of the solenoid to the screw head the engine starts? - ? Should I just buy another solenoid? Thanks to QC i have identified my engine as a stern drive 1969 omc chevy II - 4 cyl- 120 hp.

Re: Soleniod issue - I think

The engine runs fine when I do get her started - I will go test it with a light - thanks for the link-
I have a feeling it is the solenoid. I am having trouble finding a replacement online. My solenoid had the # ra0602 on it but does not look like a part #. I found a similar one here (top one)

Sorry for my ignorance here i'm quite new to all this. None of the solenoids listed for my motor look quite like mine. Does it have to be a perfect match? (OMC Sterdrive - chevy II).
