Solenoid Ground

I tried this question in the merc motor forum, but thought maybe it would get more traction here. I had issues with the starter and eventually traced it back to the starter solenoid - and to the ground wire. I jumped the ground to the block and it starts and runs fine. When following the original wire it heads up under the fly wheel, anyone know why? I'm hoping to start running this motor soon and don't want to cause any damage to it. Anyone know why that wire runs up under the flywheel? and what problem am I causing by jumping it to the block? Anyone?

Re: Solenoid Ground

I agree. Just run the black wire to a convenient stud. Make sure you clean the paint off and coat with marine grease after you tighten it down.
