Solenoid Question?

My solenoid is failing. Can i go to Auto zone and pick up a standard solenid for say a ford and install . I noticed that my says it is diode isolated on it. I have a 1979 Merc 150 . Thanks for the help.

why would you do that when you can get a oem for 20.$ or so? I replaced one on a 60 hp and it wasn't much. Maybe there isn't a dealer near????

It would work but probably isn't sealed as well. A solenoid for your motor is less than $20. Why take a chance?

No a Ford solinoid won't work but any parts store that sells Sierra or Prime Line can get the propery one for you
