After finally getting this motor running I took it out today. It ran from cold till warm and at low speed and WOT. I ran out about two miles and shut it down to mess with the shift cables since it wasn't engaging in reverse properly. It restarted a half dozen times by simply bumping the key. While it was idling it suddenly began running poorly and then died. It would not restart. I cranked forever and even waited a half hour and only got a couple coughs. I am thinking the power pack may have failed. I have not had time to check spark or anything else today and the boat is stored away from my home. Ideas?

Thank Goodness for a reliable kicker motor. It was a long slow trip back but beats paying for a tow.

I would start by checking the spark. If that is ok, check compression, if that is ok, try squirting some fuel mixture into the carbs and see if it will fire up.

Finally got to drag it out today. Found no spark on the port side. I installed a new power pack ( sierra # 18-5753).I took about 15 min start to finish and fired right up.
