- - - - - - - - -(SOLVED) - - - - - - - - - - -

I have a 1972 125hp electric push button shift that lately when trolling poppped out of gear and into neutral...shut off the key switch and it goes back into gear. Second problem is when I put direct power on take off the engine slips into neutral and the engine RPM's go up, but yet if I ease the throttle it goes ok. Any Ideas as to what this could be?? I checked the prop hub and it looks fine? This engine has no shear pin, just a rubber inner hub.

Forward gear is the default gear for that engine
(ie it's spring loaded and with no current
to the shift solinoids, it is in forward).

Primary suspect the shift switch.

Mike

What is it your saying the switch is doing???? suppying power to the solinoids while its in forward? and kicking it out of gear? Is there a way to clean the switch or check if thats the problem? Thanks!

I believe that is precisely what MRC is saying.

I believe you might have misunderstood.

There are two solinoids which control shifting
in that model electric shift.

When one of them is engaged, the engine is in
neutral.

When the other of the is engaged, the engine is
in Reverse.

With no power to either solinoid, The engine is in
forward (A revision from mid 60's when people would
get stranded in neutral if a solinoid went out)
