Re: Some advice on a Volvo 5.7ltr V8 S/d
Listen for any grumbling sounds coming from the sterndrive, particularly when cornering, which could indicate either bad gimbal bearings and/or bad U-joints. Check the sterndrive oil for water contamination (it will look like chocolate milk), indicating a bad seal somewhere). Watch the temp gauge after an extended run at full throttle. If it spikes, that could point to poor waterflow from the raw water pump or a stuck thermostat. Check the temperatures of the exhaust manifold. If there are sustantial differences, it could mean you have a plugged manifold (they may look good on the outside, but inside may be another story). If the boat is on a trailer, before sea-trialing, run the engine with muffs attached and check waterflow out of the exhaust. Poor flow could incate a problem with the cooling system.<br />Good luck and I hope everything checks out OK.
