Hello, I used to have a 1976 Slickcraft SS194, it was a 17' closed bow ski boat w/ a 302 merc I/O. I got it from the same place that has this other boat that I'm looking at. Long story short, the boat was awesome. I had 2 seasons with absolutely not a single problem. It had gobs of torque. It would absolutely leap out of the hole even with 4 people and all of our crap. And flat out would do slight over 50 MPH. Anyway, it had rot and I ended up selling it to a mechanic for $2000, which is what I paid for it 2 years earlier. I know I got lucky.

I miss my boat, and the reason I didn't put money into fixing it up, was because it wasn't perfect. It was a little small, the ride beat the crap out of you, and I could only take 4 people.

Anyway, I've started looking for something else. I'm on a limited budget, and want to stay under $5000 including a trailer. I've been reading up on the Bayliner 2050 with the V6 merc and have gotten the overall impression that it's a liked boat. Here is a boat I'm looking at.

It's the 5th one down, the 93 Bayliner 2050. They care closed until the 5th, so I'll call them when they open and find out about any rot or the condition of the engine.

Let me know what you think?

Thanks,
Steve

Yikes! Theres going to be some rot under that carpet, looks like it's been sitting out in the weather uncovered for a few years.

Once in a while you can get some very good deals at Budget Boats but be sure to check it very carefully. I know the owner (Glen) and believe me, he is out to make a buck or 2.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame. You walk all over the deck, that a mallot, or hammer with wooden handle, using handle, tap all over the transom, a shape rap is good solid base, a thud, is questionable base.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. (This part for outboard motors Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,)
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.
boat motor combo, A 30 year old may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

just looking at the pics, that is a project boat. the vinyl is split. thus the deck is probably gone, of close. not telling when the outdrive was off for service, bellows, gimbal bearing, alignment, exhaust manifolds.

definitely not worth what he is asking, all his prices are high for this buyers market. i think you can find a much better boat with $5,000.
