I am replacing all gaskets on my 7.5 hp gamefhisher and i am also replacing the piston rings. are there any suggestions you all should tell me or any other reccomend parts to replace. i was told if i replace the rings i have to replace the rod?? is this true?

Not true. Hone the cylinder. I'd rebuild the carb and since you'll have a fresh powerhead, you should have a fresh water pump.
