So, I'm a new boater just trying to have a relaxing sunday fishing out on the Columbia river in Portland, Oregon.

I find a nice protected spot between Lemon Island and Sand Island in my little 14.5 ft 1972 bass boat. I anchor up and kick back and soak up a little sun and drown some bait. Nobody is close just one larger boat anchored and napping. All is great for 30 minutes to an hour, then they come.

Some young family in a wakeboard towing go fast boat decides it would be fun to blast right past me about 15-20 feet away, nearly swamping me. I exchanged pleasantries with them (OK, I might have called them something derogatory) so they proceed to do it a couple more times. Deciding that I have nothing to gain and everything to lose I head down river and avoid the nutcases.

I go 2-2.5 miles downriver and anchor in 30' water, about 500 yards from shore and decide to "practice" some sturgeon fishing (catch and release until Oct 1). Not more than 30 minutes later after yahoo apparently dropped his family off at camp on the island, he comes blasting towards me yet again. But good old karma stepped in and he found one of the many sandbars that like to hide around in the Columbia :D He wasn't more than 50 feet from me and manged to go from around 25MPH to 0 MPH in the span of 15 feet. He was uninjured after peeling himself off his windshield and got to listen to me laugh at him for the 20-30 minutes it took him to drag himself off the sand and limp back to wherever he came from.

The best part of all, was just as my giggles were finally coming to an end, I caught a fish :) It was only a 31" sturgeon, but it cleared my "Columbia Curse"
