Someone has bridged wires to coil

Hey all. Brought a boat with a mercury 115hp inline 6 2stroke I believe it's 1985 ish? I can't find the number anywhere serial number is :80767467. If someone could Id would be nice to.

Engine starts and runs fine but I found some bridged wires on coils for cylinders 3 and 5? Any idea why they would do that I guess the original wires are faulty but they have left original ones there?

Also another thing is what should the charge voltage be I think it's a bit low pics are not running and running for a couple of minutes

The coil pictures there is an added white wire and purple wire seems strange as the green factory wires are still there. I'll take off the added wires and the original ones then test original ones

From what I can see in the pics, the original wires still in place look badly corroded. They need attention soon. Now the white wires could have been replacements for other corroded wires.

Yeah that's what i figured but it's strange that they left the original ones. I'll trace to make sure they are following the same lines

That charge voltage is probably fine for near idle. You wont be charging well till you are pretty high in rpms.

Your serial number seems to fall under the 1985 range.

Yeah I thought it seems to be charging so that's a good thing. I understand the serial number now I just couldn't find that specific number but it does seem to be 1985. I've not had it out on water since I brought the boat so obviously first thing will be a shake down and won't be going far to check all those things. Have run it for a short time and given it some smaller rpm didn't see a change in voltage much but it's not like how an alternator works. May look into a slight overhaul of the charging system think I've seen some kits around for that.

Does anyone have any advice on the tilt trim system it slowly drops when it's lifted up so will need a fluid flush so mainly what fluid to use and best method to fill. I've seen some people say power steer fluid or transmission fluid?? It's got the unit on the inside of the transom so would the fluid be filled via the rams on the bracket or in the unit inside?

Fill screw very simple to find on the unit inside the boat. Fluid is red so I guess it's some type of automatic transmission fluid. Dex 3 seems what most people use
