2 weeks ago I could hit the switch and it would work fine both up and down.

Last week I would hit the switch and nothing, but tap on the motor and it would kick in and work properly.

Tonight, hit the switch and nothing; tap on the motor, bang on the motor, wiggle wires, check all connections, hard wire the motor...nothing.

What's next?

I really need to get this sucker working because without being able to lift the motor I can't back my boat into my driveway, and when I pull it in forward it scrapes pretty bad. I beg for advice here fella's!

40hp evinrude with this tilt/trim system...

If you put 12v directly tothe motor will it run? If not, time to get her rebuilt.

If it is beyond a rebuild, time to replace

well I unhooked the connector (3 wires) and jumped 12v first to the green and then brown wires and nothing happened either time.

However, should I have perhaps grounded one side while I jumped the other?

Anyone know where I can find parts to rebuild, or a new/used pump motor?

If the motor is low enough to scrap the ground, lift on the skeg and prop it up. There are lift assist cylinders under there. You might be lifting 30lbs to set it up on it's own lift lock. I do it all the time with my 85hp 'rude. I have the same tilt unit as you, and mine doesn't work either, but I'm not fixing it.

On edit: ok, so it's a 40hp. no lift assist. but still it's light enough to lift from the skeg, and prop it up on it's own lift support. as far as trailering, a transom saver will get you through. Pick one up at gander mountain or your local boating store. ( Like here at iboats.com) ~$50.

Re: someone please show me the light!

All motors need a ground and a power supply to complete the circut unless the case is the ground most likley it is not... I have no experience with your perticular tilt system but mst likley by the sounds the green wire should be a grond and one brown will make the motor run in forward and the other reverse therefor making the up and down motion. Try connecting neg cable to the green and touching each of the brown wires with 12v+. If that doesnt work hook a jumper from the motor case to the neg batt termnal and again 12v+ to the brown wires. Most likley it is a hidden relay or solienoid failing.....
