Hello everyone. And to start off this post, I'd like to say happy fathers day to all the dads out there.
So. I've had my boat out quite a few times lately. Tuesday we took it out and did some tubing with it, and spent a lot of time on and off at WOT, and it NEVER even came close to overheating. Ran great for the most part till it started bogging after a while. I believe I've fixed that issue. Took it out friday night and went fishing, and no problems there either.
Now last night I took it out, and went fishing again. I don't run the main engine when I'm fishing. I use my kicker motor. We were in some taller weeded area, and normally don't have problems. However last night when I fired up the main engine to go back to the dock, we got about 75 percent of the way there, NOT even at WOT, and I noticed my temp rising. IT was way over what it normally is. So I shut it down and used my kicker motor to get the rest of the way in.
So here are the things that led up to this. At one point when we were going back in, I heard a real weird noise, so I dropped the throttle pretty quick. So i went from like 30 mph to 0 WAY faster than I normally do. All it was was a plastic bag that blew to the back of the boat. So the noise was nothing. But after that fast stop like that, is when I noticed the heat building up when I was headed back to the dock.
Today I took it out and checked oil to make sure I didn't have oil and water mixing. I took the hose off coming from the outdrive, and ran the rabbit ears, to see if I had flow. When I started it, I had plenty of water coming from the outdrive. So I connected that hose back up and disconnected the one from the outlet of the water pump. PLENTY of water there as well. So I reconnected everything again, and started it up under normal conditions. Let it sit and run for a while, and the temp stayed right where it always is.
So I'm wondering..... Did this heating issue happen to be caused by the sudden stop? And if it did, is there something I need to look at that may have caused this?
