HHmmm... Never gave it a thought to buy mercury. Or a use for it. When I was a kid I had some in a small jar from old thermometers, and played with it.

Probably not 240 lbs out there for the picking but I think the old timers used mercury in their gold sluices to catch the color. There's a high school teacher in BC wgo has a gold panning channel as well as some cool how-to videos. One of his outings he pans a few beads of it out.
