Ok I?m new to the boats and motors. I have a force 90hp 1996. My boat starts on fast ideal and choke when cold and runs great but sometimes ill start it place it in gear and it will bog a die. I then have to put it in natural rev it a bit then go back into gear to get it going. Is this normal. I have Check compression im at 120 in all three cylinders. My screws where off I placed them at 1 1/8 as I have read on here. Could this be my fuel diagram and where is it located at so I can check it. I also have a small leave\tear in the fuel pump bulb that I will be replacing soon not sure if this could cause this issue.

Re: sometimes bogs when placed in gear

When you set the idle mixture screws out that little bit, it probably lowered the idle speed a bit too. If you want to leave the screws where they are set now, then find the idle speed stop screw on the timing and carb tower shaft and re set it so the idle speed in forward gear, in the water is about 700-750. Lower than that and these engines get fussy and sometimes will stall when put in gear.

If you do change the stop setting, Note that Merc has a notice on the engine that says something like " If you change the idle speed, the control cables must be adjusted."
