I have a 73 Evinrude 65 horse power outboard motor that sometimes it will crank ride up no problem and sometimes there's no spark to it at all I do know that most likely that would be a short but I have checked every wire on it and they seem fine i have also read where it could be my power pack or my stator I kind of want some feedback on what shall think it might be before I just start buying parts I also noticed that it looks like I have melting points underneath my fly wheel and I read that is probably a bad rectifier Which I would need to replace the stator as well and now the question is if i have to replace to stator do I have to adjust the timing

Melting points under the flywheel??????? If you mean the charge coils are dripping, well there ya go. That's your problem, very common on '73 models. If that's what you have, replace the stator. Replacing the rectifier is not an automatic. If it is ok, it is ok. No you do not have to mess with the timing, so don't.

<<<it could be my power pack or my stator>>>

I haven't seen these "burning points", but generally speaking you can check your stator with a digital voltmeter. If it checks out, issue is most likely the power pack.

Yes I assume it is the coils melting/dripping. Will that actually cause it to sometimes not have spark and sometimes have spark? How hard is it to replace?

No need to test it if it is dripping. It is shot. And YES, hard or no start is the first symptom. Those leaking coils are the parts that generate the electricity fed to the power pack. Obviously, the power pack won't work if it isn't fed.

Flywheel needs to come off (need a puller). And you MUST use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 100-105 ft/lbs when reinstalling. Don't dare think you can guess at it.

Thank you ordering the parts now. Will follow up at a later time.
