I see most of you StarCrafters are Northern Mid West types...

Bakersfield California here...

I read through the threads and crack up with the snow pics and complaints of too cold for paint,, yadda yadda..

I see some of ya painting with heaters at like 40 degrees.. Haha

coldest I have ever seen it here is 21 degrees and that was a freak cold snap. Generally winter time temps only dip to 35 degrees in the middle of the night warming to 50 ish.

Conversely, our summers are HOT.. We are in a heat wave of abut 2 weeks of 110 highs, I'm sure your temps are more comfortable to get work done. Whats it like?

Also curious as to the types of fishing you guys are into?

My imagination has you guys trolling for walleyes, musky, pike, ETC...

I'm a striper fisherman to the point of illness, but I do fish the salt a bunch for lingcod, rockfish, salmon and tuna...

So where ya from and what do you fish for?

Re: Soooo... Guys? what kinda fishing ya doing and some regional info!

Southwest Florida here, been here about 10 years..Southern California transplant..I know Bakersfield, sorry to hear your there..lol
My entire life was fishing every weekend out of Redondo Beach, and the tuna trips out of San Diego.
Was in a charter group with 12 buddies and we would cap off our season with a 2 1/2 day trip.
I guess I have caught just about every saltwater fish out there, halibut, calico bass, white sea bass, yellowtail (not confused with tuna) bluefin tuna, albacore, yellowfin tuna, big eye tuna, wahoo and sailfish (in Cabo San Lucas).
Since moving to Florida, I really haven't fished as it isn't the same to me...fished my local Coloosahatchee river for crappie and other such fish...boring..zzzzzz
Summer in Florida sucks!!! Rain and humidity..nasty when it's 98 with 90% humidity...rains almost every day..just at slightly different times..
Now October through Febuary...wow....it's perfect.

I'm sorry you're in s cal. My wife cam from the central valley. I usually fish for kokanee or trout (lake, rainbow, a few hybrids, brooke and cutthroat are mostly gone). Some very intelligent individual dumped northern pike and walleye in up hear, and they're killing off a lot of our normal fish. Haven't fished for bass, perch, cats, whitefish, or crappie for several years, but a lot of people do here.

Nothing warm here, pike walleye, perch, pretty much sums it up. While on holidays we had our semi annual fish fry. Fed twelve happy people, crab and cream cheese stuffed mushrooms, onion rings, deep fried pickles, double dried fries and beer battered pike and walleye, what a feast.

No musky in my boat.

I really never fish for them, but have caught a few while chasing walleyes.
Generally fish for walleye, perch, northern pike, and smallmouth bass.

Just having fun cutbait. Actually my wife graduated from Bakersfield. She lived in Modesto mostly til she came up north. In about a week and a half I'm going to be feasting on kokanee, I hope. They're big this year and most people are limiting. I need to get back up there.

Re: Soooo... Guys? what kinda fishing ya doing and some regional info!

Spent a lot of time in So Cal. Always felt like a fish out of water while I was in San Diego area.

I fish for migratory striped bass found in the Delaware Bay and Atlantic. Flounder, Weakies (Sea trout), red and black drum, and sharks if I have the rigs. Haven't seen king fish in the Delaware bay in 8 years. Some days it's so calm on the bay you hear the sea turtles with heads the size of beach balls breaching.

Fresh water here it's all about Large mouth bass, pickerel (they have some attitude on a light rod), channel cats, tiger muskee if I can catch them. Going to try some bowfin soon too.

The fresh water fishing is my primary reason for my rebuild. Have the Delaware river and several major creeks to fish in, and the back bays of NJ are nice for big striper.

Never had a big interest in big Tuna or bill fish. I tend to like white fish more than red.

I also enjoy fishing at Raystown lake in PA. Although as I usually fish shallow water, getting used to deep bodies of water like Raystown it's a big change up.

for me, it's usually trolling off Sonora (Guaymas/San Carlos area) in the Sea of Cortez, for whatever will bite. catches usually involve small to medium sierra (Pacific equiv of spanish or cero mackerel, skipjack and bonito, grouper and snapper, some dorado in summer, lots of barracuda (AKA slimers....), and yellowtail in the winter. i get a few weirdos like Humboldt squid (they prolly think i'm pretty weird too tho). occasionally i go out with a friend in a real boat after pelagics.

some fish porn:

average size skippie:

sailfish (only billfish i've ever caught, and it was off my pal's 28' boat with his rod and his rigging, so it doesn't really count):

triggerfish (look weird but fight like hell and taste great

sierra....you gotta love a fish that looks like an ICBM with fins.....

smallish leopard grouper (for reference, the cutting board is 18" wide)....groupers are sorta the salt water equiv of largemouth bass....but with teeth and they grow to hundreds of pounds

At lunch today I gat a chance to wet the line. Picked up a Brook trout 12 or so inches long, the trout are starting to hit as the water starts to cool down. Just as the trout start to hit deer season is about to starts. Now what? I can’t carry a bow and fishing pole at the same time what to do.

My Starcraft came from South Bend, IN from Gramps' house. The factory is around there...probably got a LOT to do with the high presence.

It was in the upper 90s for a month with a week and a half of 100s here with 80% humidity summer here in central IL. And it'll be 0 in December. Just like every year lol. The only difference is that it didn't rain for a month and a half this time around.

Here we're catfish, bass, panfish, crappie, walleye and musky fishermen.

If you decide to get away just jump on the 99 or the 5 and start heading north. Lake Sonoma Steelies are comming down out of the creeks thinking they're winter run and headed towards the dam. Up further north the Winter Run Steelhead aren't ready yet but they'll be starting soon. It's going to be an early winter, I can feel it in my bones. Eagle Lake over towards Susanville is fishing very well this year but the ELT's are small and a 4lb fish is about the biggest you'll get. The 2-3 lb fish are still nice fish and plentyful. The lake is the lowest it's ever been and the north end can be hazardous but the south end it fine except for the only usable ramp being a single lane one boat at time thing. Shasta is doing good for a variety of fish. Orville has Silvers that you can now fish. Pyramid was good earlier this year and so was Topaz. Tahoe has the Mac's if you don't mind hunting them down. Almanor produces well and has better bag limits than Eagle. The wind on both Eagle and Almanor need to be paid attention to. The bottom line I guess is that you have some of the best freshwater fishing in the world right in your own backyard. You can also fish the Delta if you want top fishing action for just about any bass or even Sturgeon.

Lake St. Clair on the east side of Michigan. The lake and both rivers to the north and south have almost every kind of freshwater fish you can think of. Salmon, trout, musky, walleye, pike, catfish, drum, sturgeon, perch, gills, crappies, the list is friggin endless....
