sorry another transom question

im replacing the transom in my1989 four winns freedom 150,,,,,i just noticed the transom is only in the center of the back of the boat maybe 24 to 30 inches wide,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,is this normal or should it be the whole width of the boat,,,it a outboard boat

Quite normal, many boats are that way. It most likely has the stringers coming up and tieing in to it and a brace going horizontally across the transom glassed in from the inside.
